From the National Park
Service: “Mesa Verde, Spanish for green table, offers a spectacular look into
the lives of the Ancestral Pueblo people who made it their home for over 700
years, from AD 600 to 1300. Today the park protects nearly 5,000 known
archeological sites, including 600 cliff dwellings. These sites are some of the
most notable and best preserved in the United States.”
The road into Mesa Verde
National Park twists and turns through the high desert mountains. MK and I took the guided tours of Cliff
Palace and Balcony House, old pueblo Indian ruins. It was more than fascinating!
There were a lot of ladders
to climb and tight rock crevasses to crawl through.
After our trail lunch we
took the self-guided tour of Spruce House and then down the three mile round
trip trail to ancient petroglyphs.
Our visit was well worth it,
despite the hot, scorching weather.
